William M.
Jenkins
d. Jul 29, 2026
William "Bill" Jenkins, of Quechee, Vermont, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 60 after a courageous 22-year battle with cancer, which he faced with bravery and determination. He is now free of that mortal burden.
Bill was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts and grew up in Bolton, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Nashoba Regional High School. After graduating from college with a degree in Criminal Justice, he went on to dedicate 22 years of his life to public service with the Vermont State Police. During his career he served as a member of VSP’s Tactical Service, proudly served as a BCI Detective Sergeant, and finished his career as the Royalton Barracks Station Commander. After retiring from VSP, Bill continued to serve the State of Vermont as a Law Enforcement Liaison for the State Highway Safety Office from 2017 until the time of his passing. Colleagues knew him for his unwavering attention to detail and his personal integrity, qualities that defined both his career and his character.
Bill was a man of quiet strength: stoic, humble, and deeply loving. Though he rarely sought recognition for himself, he was immensely proud of his two sons, Will and Tom, and cherished every moment spent with them. He was a devoted and loving partner to his wife, Jill, and stood beside her through happiness and hardship. He found joy in the outdoors, whether he was golfing, fishing, out hunting or riding his motorcycle. Since his retirement, he was rarely without his loyal and constant companion Leo, his yellow Labrador Retriever, with whom he shared daily walks that became a cherished ritual of quiet time for reflection that suited his steady, grounded nature.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Bill [Sr.] and Mae. He is survived by his wife, Jill; his sons, Will and Tom; his mother- and father-in-law, Judy and Tom Johanneson; his sisters, Bonnie, Joyce, and Julia; his sister- and brother-in-law, Amy and Kevin Francis, and his three nephews, Sean, Ryan, and Adam; and his loyal companion, Leo.
A celebration of life will be held at Murphy's Farm in Quechee on Friday August 21, 2026 at 13:00.
Bill will be remembered for the steadfastness he carried through every chapter of his life, and for the steady, loving presence he gave so freely to those around him. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed to either the Vermont K9 Foundation or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in memory of William M Jenkins.
