William "Bill" Harris, 91, died Thursday evening March 21, 2013 at the Mt Ascutney Health Care Center in Windsor, Vermont.

Bill was born on January 28, 1922 in Bridgewater, Vermont the son of Luman Roy and Victoria (Geno) Harris.

Bill was educated in Bridgewater, Vermont. He was on the local Ski Patrol and served as a Medic during World War II when he was stationed in France. During Bill's four years of service in the US Army he was a member of the 10th Mountain Division. He married Mary Jane Frechette on September 4, 1948.

Bill worked at the Bridgewater Woolen Mill, Harlan Booths Sawmill, and the Tip Top Bakery. He also worked for W. D. Cabot's and served as an assistant on the Woodstock Ambulance. After leaving W.D. Cabot's Bill went on to work at Dartmouth College where he worked as a cook until he retired in 1987.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2571 White River Jct., VT, Elks Lodge 1541 Hartford, VT, American Legion Post 26 White River Jct., VT, and Our Lady of the Snows Catholic church in Woodstock, VT.

Bill is survived by his wife Betty Jane Harris, White River Jct., VT, his son Ronald Harris, Sarasota, FL, his 2 daughters, Elizabeth Hill, Bridgewater, VT and Claudia Townsend, Richardson, TX, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and his brother Robert J. Harris, Washington, DC. He is predeceased by 2 sisters Pauline Bugbee and Louise Severance.

A graveside service will be held in the Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the charity of their choice.
