BRIDGEWTER Corners. - A graveside service for William Joseph Geno, 81, who died May 12, 2011 at his home in Bridgewater Corners, surrounded by his family, will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Riverside Cemetery in West Woodstock, VT.
Bill was born on November 26, 1929 in Bridgewater Center, the son of Mabel Viola (Davis) and Victor Joseph Geno. He attended school in Bridgewater Center and married Wahnetta Estelle Martin on December 20, 1952.
He started his work career driving log truck for Howard Towne in Sherburne in 1948. From 4/10/1950 - 5/1952, Bill served his country in the Army, a member of the 663rd Transportation Truck Company, stationed at Camp Edwards on Cape Cod. Prior to active duty at Camp Edwards, Bill joined the Army reserves in White River Junction. In later years, he worked as a construction superintendent for several building contractors including R.E. Beane, Baybutt, Loney Construction, Russell as well as others.
He served his community as a select board member and was very active in the PTA, helping to raise funds for many school activities. From March 1995 - November 1995, Bill helped raise funds as a member of the Bridgewater Veteran's Memorial Committee, to erect the monument dedicated to the veterans of WW II, Korea & Viet Nam which is located on the lawn of the Bridgewater Town Office.
The most important thing to Bill was family and he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wahnetta, 7 children and their spouses: Sharlene (Jerry) Allen of Bridgewater, Sheryl (Randy) Phelps of Auburndale, FL, Victor (Mary Kay), Randall (JoEllen), Rhonda (Chuck) Pratte all of Bridgewater, Nathan (Crystal) of Cavendish & Shane (Karen) of Bridgewater, 18 Grandchildren & 29 Great-Grandchildren; 2 brothers, Clifford & Douglas, both of Bridgewater and 1 sister, Melba Driscoll of Washington, VT. He also loved and leaves behind his pets, Hogan (dog) & Mittens (cat).
He was predeceased by his mother on 9/13/2003, his father on 1/23/1952, 1 brother, Oscar, 1 sister, Reta Griggs, 2 sister-in-laws, Naomi & Naida & 1 brother-in-law, Robert Griggs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bridgewater Veteran's Memorial Fund or the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department.
