Bridgewater Corners, Vermont
Wesley Lee Frost, 100 died peacefully on Wednesday evening January 17, 2018 at the Mertens House in Woodstock, Vermont.
Wesley was born on July 25, 1917 in St. Albans, Maine, the son of Wesley S. and Vinnie (Vicnare) Frost. He was one of nine children and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Wes served in the US Army in Japan during WW II. Before the war he had worked in the woods in Lyme, NH. Upon his return he spent another 5 years working in Pittsfield, VT and for Putnam Construction in Bridgewater Corners. The Putnam family became lifelong friends. Wesley then spent 5 years working for the State of Vermont's Highway Department of Roads. Even until his middle 90's he could still direct you around Cavendish, Proctorsville and Weston roads and tell you about the projects he worked on.
He worked for 25 years at Goodyear Tire in Windsor, VT. After his retirement from Good Year (1980) he began work on the Roger Richardson Farm in Cox District in Woodstock maintaining and care-taking their home as if they were his own until he retired for a second time.
On May 2, 1942 Wes married Florence Earle. They bought a small farm on Hale Hollow Road in Plymouth. In early 1957 he traded land and built a home half a mile down the road in Bridgewater Corners so their children could go to WUHS in Woodstock. Wes was a member of both the Woodstock and Bridgewater American Legions.
He is survived by his daughter Lois F. Taylor (Neal) of St. Cloud, FL., 2 sons; Wesley D. Frost (Martha) of Jericho, VT., and Steven C. Frost (Jane) of Woodstock, VT, 10 grandchildren; Allison Wade, Shannon Putnam, Larissa Jillson, Brennan Jillson, Megan Westover, Christine Frost, Cathy-Lynn Frost, Jennifer Dean, Jason Potwin, and Heidi Ashe, 18 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday May 18th at 10:00am in the Topliff Cemetery in Bridgewater Corners followed by a gathering at the Bridgewater Grange.
