Obituary

Walter P. Chiefsky

After a long, full life, Walter P. Chiefsky passed away peacefully at the Woodstock Terrace on August 10. Walter was born on August 27, 1916, to Ursula and Frank Chiefsky. The youngest of six children, Walter was raised in Throop, PA. He graduated from Throop High School in 1934 and then went to Skytop Lodge where he learned how to cook. During the Depression, Walter worked for the CCC, building electrical lines in Pennsylvania.

Walter was a combat veteran who served in the Second Infantry Division of the Army. At the end of the war, Walter moved to Bridgeport, CT, where he worked for General Electric. It was here that he met, and married, Frances Ataman. Together, they raised their only child, Susan. After retirement from GE, Walter enjoyed working as a golf course "starter" in the Bridgeport area.

In 2009, Walter moved to Woodstock, VT to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law, Edward Esmond. While a member of the Terrace community Walter enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to Frank Sinatra, singing, and eating traditional Polish food. Most of all Walter enjoyed the loving attentive care of the staff and the fellowship of the residents, and many activities at the Woodstock Terrace.

Walter was predeceased by his wife Frances and his siblings. Besides Susan and Ed, Walter has several nieces and nephews who live in Pennsylvania. He is also survived be his dear friend Ed Jones and his wife, Mary.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Woodstock, Vermont, on Wednesday, August 14, at 11 am. Interment will be in Connecticut at a later date.

To the end, Walter followed the saying, "It's not what it is; it's what you make it". Walter did it his way! His smile, laughter and enjoyment of people will always be remembered.
