Obituary

Vivian E. Boyle died October 22, 2026 at Dartmouth Medical Center. Vivian was born July 26, 1926 in Donora, Pennsylvania to Charles and Esther Jones. Her father died when she was three. Several years later her mother married Reuben Raymond Colyer who was a great dad to her and grandfather to her children.

She attended Thiel College and acquired secretarial skills. She would leave Christmas lists and other notes around the house written in shorthand that no one could decipher.

She met John Boyle on a blind date and they married in 1951 in a small ceremony in Donora before John headed to basic training. They spent his Korean War service in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

They moved to Philadelphia so John could attend University of Pennsylvania Law School. Vivian got a job at what would now be called a start up magazine - Sports Illustrated where she supported John during his law school years.

John and Vivian raised their family in Malvern and later Berwyn, Pennsylvania where Vivian was active in the Paoli Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. They retired to Dataw Island, South Carolina before moving to Vermont to be closer to family.

Vivian loved to play bridge and was playing into her late 90s. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, loved to garden and was an excellent cook. She loved decorating and would move furniture around, even in houses that were not hers. However, her greatest loves were her grandsons, Sumner and Ian Ford.
