Obituary

Roiter, Stephen H., 75, of Quechee, VT, formerly of Weston, MA died July 25, 2018. Cherished son of the late Earl & Pearl (Shectman) Roiter. Beloved husband of Martha (Love) Roiter. Loving father of Eric Roiter & Kate (Jeff) Bayard. Adored grandfather of Charlotte, Eve, Jack, Hazel, and Pearl. Dear brother to Dr. William Roiter.

Steve will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud parent and grandparent, and committed leader, friend, and active competitor. Steve grew up in Brookline, MA and received an engineering degree from Tufts University in 1964 and an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1966. He began his career with General Electric Company before enlisting in the U. S. Army serving as a Lieutenant in the active Army and being discharged from the reserves as a Captain in 1973. He married Martha Love in 1965, settling in Weston, MA where they raised their children. Happily married for 52 years they made their home in Quechee, VT during the past few years.

For most of his career, Steve worked for and was President and major shareholder of M. E. Baker Company in Cambridge, MA expanding the company into VT and mentoring the Baker Solar Division. His passion was his family and business along with a commitment to competitive involvement in sports that focused on tennis, platform tennis and golf.  He competed with his son and daughter in the National Father-Son and Father-Daughter tournaments in which they held national rankings.  The family was selected as the Edwin Goodman Tennis Family of the year in 1996. During Steve's tenure as President of the Longwood Cricket Club in 1999, the club hosted the 100 th anniversary Davis Cup Tie (U.S. v. Australia), a memory that sealed Longwood's place in history for tennis. In parallel, Steve was committed to the early growth of platform tennis during the 1970's and played competitively, holding national rankings in the senior categories. The move to VT and living on two golf courses triggered his love for that game. Last year he was proud to say he notched over 100 rounds and continued his love for competition.

Burial was held privately.

A charitable foundation is being set up in his name.
