Obituary

Shelley Wood of Barnard, VT died of cancer on December 30.

Shelley was born in 1951 in Syracuse, New York. She grew up in Elbridge, NY and was always grateful for a loving and secure childhood.

Shelley's life was centered on and enriched by the natural world, dogs, and art.

She felt a profound love for nature from childhood on, and being in the outdoors always brought her great solace and joy. Shelley served 10 years in the National Park Service in Acadia National Park, and was the first female ranger on Isle au Haut. In later life she walked the trails near her home and around Silver Lake daily, in every kind of weather.

Dogs were always her best friends. She lavished her love on many extremely lucky canine companions. Shelley looked forward to being reunited with her pack.

Her nature-based art evoked a magical world; life as she wished it could be on a metaphysical plane, where alternate realities could co-exist. Shelley's annual Christmas card paintings were treasured by all who received them.

She is survived by her husband, Dean Jillson; her twin brother Bruce Wood and his wife Jan of Skaneateles, NY; niece Laura Wood of Nashville, TN; brother Dan Wood and his wife Brenda of Bend, Oregon

According to her wishes there will be no memorial service. Donations in Shelley's name can be made to Passion for Paws dog rescue of Shelburne VT, or to an animal or nature- based organization of your choice.

The Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock is assisting the family. An on-line guestbook can be found at cabotfh.com
