Romaine "Puggy" Potwin, 81 died Wednesday October 1, 2014 at Cedar Hill Health Care in Windsor, Vermont.
Puggy was born on March 6, 1933 in East Barnard, Vermont the son of Harold and Merle (Loura) Potwin.
He served in the United States Navy and on September 18, 1954 he married Sandra M. Ransom.
Puggy was a great steward of the land spending his years farming, sugaring and earning the reputation of a "Jack of all trades". Puggy was a good example of his own words "A little hard work never hurt anyone".
Puggy had a strong sense of pride living by his words "If I say it, I'm going to do it" and he will be remembered as part of a generation when a mans word meant something.
Along with his hard work and enjoyment of family Puggy was a "prankster". He had nic names for many and was able to pull off most any joke that might come to mind.
Puggy is survived by his six children; Chris Potwin of Sharon, VT, Bruce Potwin of Auburndale, FL, Stanley Potwin of Middleboro, MA, Wendy Cronan of Dorchester, NH, Ramona May of Durango, CO, and Marjorie Blanchard of Bridgewater, VT, 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a sister Ramona Davenport of Halifax, MA. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Sandra, seven brothers, Nelson, Gerald, Harold, Vincent, Roger, Robert and Louis Potwin and six sisters, Catherine Baker, Rita Bumps, Louise Fisher, Marjorie Jones, Barbara Rhodes,Vera Dickinson and an infant granddaughter Catherine Ann Potwin.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening October 7th from 6 to 8 pm at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock, VT. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8th at 1:00 pm in the Universalist Church in Barnard, VT. Burial will follow in the Silver Lake Cemetery in Barnard, VT, a gathering will follow the burial at the Barnard Town Hall.
Those wishing may make memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, Dementia Association, or the Cedar Hill Angel Network.
The Potwin family sends out a big thank you to all the staff at Cedar Hill Nursing home who showed him all their love and compassion.
