Roger W. Strong, 79, died Saturday morning August 22 nd at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Roger was born on June 7, 1936 in Windsor, Vermont the son of Ernest E. and Vina (Darling) Strong.
Roger married Dixie Lee Spittle on June 22, 1957 before serving in the United State Marine Corp. When he returned from the service he began a long career as a chef. He began by working at the Woodstock Inn and continued by working for the Green Mountain Inn in Stowe. Roger then built and ran Dixie's Country Kitchen in Sharon, Vermont. He went on to work at the Colony Inn both in Kennebunkport ME and Delray, FL.
Roger was a member of the American Legion in White River Jct. and the Hartford Elks.
Roger is survived by his wife Dixie Lee of Sharon, VT, his 5 children; Sheila Quillia and husband Bob of So. Royalton, VT, Randal Fenton Walton-Strong and wife Debra of Sharon, VT, Brenda Lee Kinerson and husband Lonnie of Bishop, CA, Laurie Ann Strong and Wayne of Oceanside, CA, Glen Kevin Strong and wife Kristen of Bethel, VT, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 7 brothers and sisters; Lorraine Kruse and husband Elmer of Springfield, VT, Ernest Strong of Milton, VT, Bernard Strong of Woodstock, VT, George Strong of Williston, VT, Sylvia Doten and husband John of Woodstock, VT, Kenny Strong and wife Sue of Littleton, NH, and Steve Strong and wife Linda of Fort Orange, FL. He is pre-deceased by one brother Stan and 4 sisters Charlotte Maxham, Franny Drury, Mabel Strong, and Rose Strong.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 1, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery, Randolph, Vermont with burial to follow.
