Robert
Wendling
April 1, 1959 – March 22, 2023
Robert F. Wendling passed away peacefully at his home in Hartland, VT on March 22, 2023, after a long battle with leukemia. He was born April 1, 1959, in Windsor, VT to Richard F. & Kathryn D. Wendling. Bob attended several one-room schools in Pomfret and graduated from WUHS. He enjoyed driving his go cart and minibike with friends at the S6 parking lot and working on his muscle cars. His sister recalls the impressive 4-room fort he built using whatever he could find for materials from our parents' barn at the New England Inn.
Following in his father's footsteps Bob became an accomplished professional cook. His career began at Bentleys of Woodstock, then at The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine and Delray Beach, Florida. It was at The Colony where he found the love of his life, Carolyn Springer. They were married on February 22, 1985. Settling in Florida, Bob continued at The Colony heading up the maintenance department. After 19 years at The Colony Hotel Bob & Lynn decided they wanted to be closer to family and moved to Hartland, Vermont in 1996. Locally, Bob worked for Potter Construction and TPW. When he wasn't on the job, he was busy remodeling his home and working on various projects around the house. He and Lynn also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and going to the NASCAR races in their motorhome.
Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn, sister Marjorie Wakefield, a niece and several nephews, godchildren, Daniel Hunter and Denise Direnzo, and their two dogs Leo and Betty.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in Bob's name to an animal shelter near you.
