Robert Arnold Lewis, 78, died Wednesday morning January 15, 2020 at his home in Bridgewater Corners, Vermont.
Robert was born on July 12, 1941 in Hanover, NH the son of Rodney and Ruth (Manley) Lewis.
Robert was a graduate of Woodstock Union High School where his was active in many sports including the ski team. He entered the US Navy, serving during the "Bay of Pigs" and in addition to his 2 years of electrical training he served on the "Project Mercury" recovery force taking part in Astronaut and space craft retrieval. He served on the USS N. K. Perry and then the USS Waller until his discharge in 1965.
Upon returning home Robert and his wife Mae lived in Pomfret and raised their family. Robert worked as a Bus Driver, for Maynes Electric, and then for CVPS for 25 years. Robert and Mae later moved to Bridgewater Corners. Robert was a member of the Hartford Elks, Local Boy Scouts (serving in Leadership positions), the local Fast Squad, the North Pomfret Congregational Church, the Suicide Six Ski Patrol, and was a member of the "chain gang" for WUHS football.
Robert is survived by his wife Mae Lewis, his two sons, Robert Jr. (wife, Susan) and Anthony (wife, Kim), 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his brother James "Butch" Lewis, and a number of other family. In addition to his parents he is pre deceased by his sister in law, Karen Lewis.
Robert's life will be celebrated on Sunday January 26 th from 2pm to 4pm at the Bridgewater Corners Grange (Rt. 100A). Internment will be at a date to be announced in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont.
