The family of Richard (Dick) Turner are saddened to let you know that he died on June 17th, 2017 at the age of 68. Dick was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, but moved to VT after graduating from Baldwin-Wallace College. He later received his Master's in Public Administration at the University of VT. He worked for the Department of Corrections for over 30 years and was last employed as the Regional Director at Phoenix House.
Dick spent his entire life working for the underdog. Dick took in his children's friends when they didn't know where to go and he was a loyal fan to his Cleveland team's-most notably, the Cleveland Browns.
Dick was loved by many, and is survived by his loving wife Mina Harootunian Turner. Dick had an extensive family including three beautiful daughters that he had with his first wife, Deborah (Lambert) Malgeri. Dick's daughters, Sarah Lidz (Jonathan), Maggie Van Duyn (Jim) and Rebecca Turner (Fiance, Nathan Byrne) were joined with Mina's children, Kristine Harootunian (Ted Clark), Matt Harootunian (Fiance, Lauren Skaskiw) and Jason Harootunian (Alexandra) who rounded out this beautifully blended family. Dick maintained a very close relationship with his fun-loving sisters, Susan Weidner (Mike), Jane Forward (Fiance, Richard Bishop) and Nancy Boymer (Larry) and many adoring nieces and nephews who all believed that they were his favorite. His most treasured thing in life was family, especially his grandchildren, Zoey and Emmet Van Duyn and Turner Lidz. Dick was predeceased by his parents Angeline and Laurence Turner, natives of New Orleans, LA and his brother, Larry Turner. Dick was the best dad, the best uncle and the best friend to Larry Boymer, Mike Dooley, Rich McDonald, Tom Weaver, and Lee Cavano.
Dick was accepting of everyone. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him loved him because of his kindness and compassion. His non-judgmental, open heart made all feel heard and loved. We are better people for having known him and we will carry his love of life and fun-nature with us always. He will be missed.
