Obituary

Richard Arthur Staples, a life-long resident of Woodstock, Vermont died peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction.
The youngest of five children, Richard was born to George and Beatrice (Pretty) Staples on January 22, 1934. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1953. Richard enlisted in the US Army and completed his military service during the Korean War.
On April 10, 1955 Richard married Lucille "Tookie" Pfenning, of Sherburne, VT. They raised their three children, Bryon, Karen and Gail, in the log home they built themselves on Barberry Hill.
Dick was a jack-of-all-trades; and he possessed a wealth of knowledge in the skilled building trades. But his chosen profession was Master Plumber, and he worked as a dedicated plumber at R.E. Morgan & Sons, Inc. for twenty-five years.
A man of integrity and commitment, Dick was a hard worker, a loyal friend, and a dependable neighbor. These attributes are the legacy he leaves in the memories of his friends. But above all else, Dick was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed. The family wishes to thank the staff of the VA Medical staff for their care and compassion during Richard's stay at the hospital.
Richard is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Lucille (Pfenning) Staples, three children, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. His is also survived by his sister Mary Cameron, his brother Ted and wife Joan, and his sister-in-law Grace Staples. Richard was predeceased by his parents, his brothers George Staples, Jr. and E. John Staples, and his brother-in-law Wendall Cameron.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Thompson Senior Center or your local food shelf.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
