WOODSTOCK, VT – Richard "Rick" Rideout, 74, passed away at home from cancer on June 24, 2023. His wife, Julie, brother-in-law Peter and sister-in-law Jan were with him as he left for his next journey.

Rick was born in 1948 in Houlton, Maine, to Joseph and Beatrice Rideout. He graduated from Presque Isle High School and honorably served our country in the U. S. Army in Vietnam, making many lifelong friendships. Upon his return home, he promptly headed to Killington for a change in scenery and – of course – to ski! Deciding to settle down (more or less), Rick had a 30-year career with the Vermont Department of Corrections, retiring in 2008. After retirement, he was proud to serve fellow veterans by volunteering for 17 years at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction.

Rick is survived by his best friend and spouse of nearly 40 years, Julie (Ross) Rideout of Woodstock; brother, Ron, of Rutland; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

At Rick's request, no service will be held. At a later date, his next tour of duty will be at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
