Pauline "Polly" Sharpe Sawyer, beloved Mother, sister and friend died peacefully on March 9, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.

Pauline was born in Bridgewater, Vermont on September 6, 1922, the fourth child of Myrtle (Glover) and Robert M. Sharpe, Sr. She graduated from Woodstock Union High School Class of 1940. She attended Skidmore College for two years before she transfered to Katherine Gibbs in Boston.

She met her future husband when he came home with her brother for a Sunday dinner. She and "Babe" were married in 1944 in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey.

After the war years, they returned to Woodstock. Paulineworked at the Bridgewater Woolen Mill office for her father. She was a legal secretary for James Wright, Esq. and later for Niles, Johnson & Gibbs for many years.

She was an accomplished and enthusiastic skier first at Gibert's Hill and then later at the Gully and Suicide Six, enjoying many a wonderful day with family and friends. Her passion for golf started in high school and continued throughout her life. She was a successful and gracious playing partner who, when no longer able to play, greatly missed being on the golf course with her friends.

She will be fondly remembered for her conscientious work ethic, her kindness and care for others,her wonderful sense of humor, and her love of gardening and nature. All of which she instilled in her children, starting at an early age.

She was a life long member of St. James Church and the Ladies Golf Association, the Woodstock Ski Runners and a Girl Scout leader.

Polly moved to Woodstock Terrace 12 years ago and felt very much at home at this friendly, caring place.Polly's family gratefully thanks all of the Woodstock Terrace staff for their wonderful, loving care over the years. She referred to them as "her friends". Her family also appreciates the fine care and compassion she received from the Bayada Hospice Team and Dr. Steven Smith.

Polly is survived by her daughter,Paula and husband, Richard of Morrisville, VT., her son, Peter and wife, Angela of Virginia City, Montana, two sisters, Henrietta Smith of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Eleanor (husband John) Fraleigh of Narragansett,Rhode Island,and a sister-in -law, Mary Sharpe of Bridgewater,VT. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert "Babe", her sisters, Dorothea Crampton and Barbara LaBelle Pedone and her brother, Bob Sharpe, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Ottauquechee Health Foundation, PO Box 784, Woodstock, Vermont, 05091.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 1:00 pm in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock, Vermont. Time to be announced.
