Woodstock, VT. Patricia (Pat) Mayhew Mangan, 91, of Woodstock passed away peacefully on May 9, 2017, at Mertens House in Woodstock surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born on June 22, 1925 in Brandon, Vermont, the daughter of George and Clara Mayhew.
On May 28th, 1949 Pat married her beloved husband, Patrick H. Mangan Jr., in Rutland, Vermont. 'Big Pat and Little Pat' went on to raise a family of six children first in Rutland, Vermont and then in Taftsville, where they moved in 1968 and became pillars of the local community. Pat and Pat retired to a little house on Valley View Road in Woodstock in 1984 and continued to serve the community they loved.
Pat worked at The Vermont Standard as an office administrator for 19 years. She was a long-time member and active volunteer at the Thompson Senior Center, was an honorary member of the Woodstock Rotary Club, and a member of the St. Anne's Club at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. Pat served as her husband's right-hand woman during his political career as a State Representative for Woodstock and Reading from 1989 to 1992.
Most of all, Pat loved being with her family. After raising her own children, she cherished time with her treasured grandchildren and "grand dogs" in and around Woodstock. "Grandma Tee", as she was affectionately known, was loved and admired by all who knew her. She had a wonderful carefree attitude, zest for life and infectious laugh. She enjoyed playing board games, mini-golf, bowling and many other activities, especially during annual trips to the Maine coast. Pat was also an enthusiastic New England sports fan. She loved the Boston Red Sox and was thrilled to see them win the World Series, loved watching golf, and supported the New England Patriots, especially her 'hunk' Tom Brady.
Pat was predeceased by her devoted husband, Patrick Mangan, her parents, George and Clara Mayhew her eight siblings, and beautiful daughter-in-law Marivic Mangan. She is survived by her six children, Barry (Marivic) of San Diego, CA and Woodstock; Barbara Leonard (Wayne) of Woodstock; Peter (Sharon) of Swanzey, NH; Maureen (Frank Stockwicz) of North Greenbush, NY; Martha Giller (James) of Woodstock; Kathryn Christy (David) of Barre; nine loving grandchildren Brian, Laura, Timothy, Daniel, Michael, Allison, Christopher, Patrick, Kelly, and their families, including two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Alexander.
At Pat's request, there will be no calling hours. A Catholic mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Woodstock, Vermont on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cabot Funeral Home of Woodstock, Vermont. An on line guest book can be found at cabotfh.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Thompson Senior Center at 99 Senior Lane in Woodstock, Vermont 05091.
Pat's family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Steve Smith, and the devoted staffs at The Homestead and Mertens House of Woodstock for all of the compassionate care they provided to Pat and her family later in her life.
