Obituary

Hartland, VT- Ollie Mae(Powell) Marcotte, 70, died on Thursday, June 29, 2017 surrounded by her family at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH following a lengthy illness.
Born March 2, 1947 to Marie (Pace) & Edward Powell in Matador, Texas. Ollie grew up in the Amarillo, Texas area.

She met her husband, Lewis Marcotte, while he was stationed in the Air Force and they were married in Amarillo on March 21, 1964.

Lewis brought his Texas rose back to his hometown of Hartland, VT to raise their three children (Kathy, Karen & Donald), and build their home together.

Ollie was employed for more than 20 years as a Cook at Dartmouth College Dining Services, and prior to that at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital. Many knew her at work as "Big Red". She mentored several young cooks and cooked for the students as if they were her own family.

She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren & great grandchildren, cooking, road trips with Lewis where she served as navigator, the Maine ocean especially the York/Wells/Kennebunkport area & Nubble Lighthouse.

Ollie was known for her beautiful gardens & Koi pond at her home, which she designed and installed with Lewis & Donald. And her Banana Nut Cake, a secret family recipe from Texas, which she never divulged except to pass it down to her children.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lewis Marcotte, her 3 children; Kathy Marcotte and her husband David Broder , Karen Marcotte and her longtime companion Mike Forte of Pine Island, FL, Donald Marcotte , 3 grandchildren; Nathaniel Marcotte and his girlfriend Felicia Pierce, Mollie Broder & Zebulon Broder, 2 great grandchildren; Carson & Piper Marcotte; Sister-in-Law Heidi Marcotte & her husband Tom Wetmore and their children Ada Wetmore & Jenevra Wetmore, Sisters; Mildred Dawson & Edna Monk and their families of Amarillo, Texas.



There are no calling hours. Family & friends are invited to celebrate Ollie's life at a reception at the home of Tom Wetmore & Heidi Marcotte at Wetmore Lane ,431 Rt. 12 Hartland, VT on Monday, July 3rd from 1-4pm.
