Norman Earl Martin, 85, passed away on Thursday May 12 th at Rutland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Norman was born on July 6, 1936 to Earl Herbert and Doris Holt Martin.

Norm was a man of many jobs and talents, which brought him to his last and most beloved way of life as owner of Martin Excavating.

Norm worked for Jim Tracy who was the Road Commissioner for the Town of Bridgewater, for Ralph Stillson's Garage in West Woodstock, Floyd Holts's Garage and Jenne's Garage in Bridgewater. While at Jenne's Garage, Norm drove school bus and was a janitor at both the Bridgewater Schools. Norm began working for Neil Lantz, Sr. during the Flood of 1973, shortly thereafter Norm bought his first excavator and truck and began Martin Excavating which he ran until his retirement in 2017 at which time his two sons (Nope & Bruce) and grandson (Quinn) took over the business.

Norm enjoyed tinkering on anything that could be tinkered on from watches to old cars. He enjoyed camping in the early years with family and friends, spending time in Florida and most recently vacationing in Cape Cod.

Norm was married to his wife, Gloria DeLuca in August 1958 and together they had four children: Nancy (Greg) Robinson, Tammy (Butch) Wardwell, Bruce Martin, Nope (Diane) Martin. They have 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Norm is pre deceased by his parents, sister Shirley Harrington and brother Herbie Martin. He is survived by his wife, children, grand children and his sister Wahnetta Geno, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Graveside service will be held on Sunday June 5 th at 2:00pm at the Baker Hill Cemetery in Bridgewater Center. A time to share stories is being planned to immediately follow the service.
