Obituary

Norman Edward Ecker, 91

Beloved husband, father and grandfather

Norman Edward Ecker of Hartland died peacefully in his home on November 24, 2024.
His life was full of adventure from his travels to Europe, Hawaii, the US and Canada, to his hiking, biking, sailing, tennis, golf, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and kayaking.  He loved it all.

Born in Los Angeles, CA on March 1, 1933. He was the son of Ralph Ecker and Mildred Scroggins. At the age of 10, Norm and his siblings moved to St. Louis, MO. There he attended Kirkwood High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard both the troop transport, the USS General H.W. Butner and the aircraft carrier, the USS Coral Sea. Following his military service he enrolled at the
University of Missouri. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. While in school he married his first wife, Evelyn Rudolph and a year later their first child, Bruce, was born.

Norm began his career in the plastics industry. First with Owens Corning in South Carolina, where his second son Greg was born. From there he moved to Staten Island, NY where his third child Christine, was born. He then joined Celanese Corp and moved throughout the mid-west ending up in Palos Verdes, CA. There he divorced his wife and went to work for PMS Consolidated. In 1974 he met the love of his life, Jo-Ann Miller. They were married in April, 1978 in Laguna Beach, CA.  They honeymooned on a sailing yacht, touring throughout the British Virgin Islands. They lived in Palos Verdes until 1995 when Norm decided to retire. It was then that they picked Hartland, VT as their place of retirement. Norm loved living here. Almost immediately he joined the Woodstock Country Club and was an avid golfer for the next 23 years. He and his playing partners, Dixon Pike, Dave Blackwell, Jack Lily and Charlie English loved every minute. In winter Norm would cross country ski on the wonderful trails of the Country Club.  His travels were highlighted by the ten trips that he and Jo-Ann took to her step-mother's home in the south of France.

Norm loved his family and friends and shared many memories with them.

Norm is survived by his wife, Jo-Ann Ecker, his children, Bruce Ecker, Greg Ecker (Kathy), Christine Ecker; grandchildren
David Feinbaum Jr, Elizabeth Feinbaum: sisters Jean Moser, Gloria Giordano (Gerald), Karen Drouet and brothers Ken Ecker (Alyce) and Bruce Ecker (Iliana). Norm was precededed in death by his parents, sister, Billie Lou Greenlief and brother Carroll Ecker.

Norm will always be known for his kindness, generosity and his love for the outdoors and nature. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
