Hartford, Vermont
Millicent "Sally" Fernandes, 81, died peacefully at her home in Hartford on Saturday February 21st surrounded by her family.
Sally was born July 4, 1933 in Hanover, New Hampshire the daughter of Robert Sanford and Ruth (Chandler) Whitney.
She grew up in Taftsville and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1951. She worked in Hartford CT from 1954 to 1958 at Hamilton Standard. She returned to Vermont in 1958 and married Richard Fernandes. Sally raised a family and worked at Thermal Dynamics while living in Quechee and later Hartford. She and Richard lived in Tucson, AZ from 1985 until 1988 and Sally worked for Hughes Aircraft there.
Sally enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, country music, especially listening to George Jones, hooking rugs, and going to Wells, ME. A very memorable moment for Sally was in the 2005 hunting season when she, son Dan, and grandson Danny all shot bucks on Opening Day.
Sally is survived by her husband of 56 years Richard D. Fernandes of Hartford, VT, her children; Lori Fernandes of Hartford, VT, Daniel Fernandes and his wife Bonnie Parker-Fernandes of Quechee, VT, and Teri Fernandes of Springfield, VT, her sister Bettina (Whitney) Boyajian of Hebron, CT, her grandchildren; Jamie Lee Parker-Fernandes and Daniel Fernandes both of Quechee, VT, Michael Fernandes of Bronx, NY, Rachael Facteau of Springfield, VT, John V. Bielecki and Jason M. Bielecki of Hartford, VT, Jake Bielecki of Burlington, VT, and several nieces and nepwhes. In addition to her parents she is pre deceased by 2 brothers; Robert C. and Edward S. Whitney, and a sister Marilyn W. Ware.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday February 27th from 5 to 7 pm at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock, VT. A graveside service will be held on Saturday May 30th at 11:00am in the Taftsville Cemetery.
Those wishing may make memorial donations to Special Olympics of Vermont, 16 Gregory Drive #2, So. Burlington, VT 05403, or the Vermont Alzheimer's Foundation, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 128, Williston, VT 05495.
