Mary Jane Vaughan, 85, died Monday May 28 th at the Portsmouth Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, NH.
She was born on September 28, 1932 in Claremont, NH the daughter of Armond "Joe" and Irene (Cook) Mayotte.
Mary graduated from Stevens High School in 1951 where she enjoyed great success skating in the semi pro Junctioneers Skating Club with her sister Evelyn and attended a number of Carnivals around NE.
After high school she worked for Stanley's Market before going to work for P & C Grocery for a number of years. In 1952 she married her 1 st husband John E. Murray who pre deceased her in 1976. In 1982 she married Morton Vaughan.
Mary was lucky enough to retire at the young age of 50, which allowed her to spend time with her husband Mort and do the things they enjoyed, such as traveling, camping, skiing, and spending time with family. She was well known for her passionate decorating of her home, for every holiday, this gift brought her prizes and accolades, but mostly it lifted others spirits. Mary was a talented stained glass artist, she enjoyed spending her time making these beautiful pieces of art that fill the homes of all her family and loved ones. She loved a challenge and could fix anything.
Cooking and Baking were also very important in her life and her home made candies and treats were known and enjoyed by many. She loved cooking for her family. Mary's life was one of activity, her energy was contagious, she was a true inspiration to all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband Mort, her son Kim (Sheila) Murray, her two grandchildren Shannon (Mike) Kenison and Ryan (Crystal) Murray, her great grandson Donnivan, 2 nieces; Nancy and Suzzie. In addition to her parents she is pre deceased by her 1 st husband John, and 2 sisters: Mildred Hayna and Evelyn Wilson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday June 10 th at 2:pm at the first Congregational Church of Claremont, 72 Pleasant Street. There will be no calling hours, burial will be held at a later date.
