Mary Oakley
Sharpe
June 15, 1926 – May 6, 2023
It is with a heavy heart we say "love you and see you later " to our Mother,
Mary Oakley (Audsley)Sharpe. Mom had a long and full life,with an abundance of love and patience (most of the time).
Mary was born in 1926 in Cleethropes, England into a large family, of four brothers and four sisters.
She worked as a hand riveter at a tool manufacturer. And worked on the Spitfires during the Blitz on England. Then joined and served three years in the Royal Air Force. Was stationed in Paris where she met Arthur in 1945.
She moved to Woodstock and married Arthur and started a family: three daughters and two sons.
She also worked hard to become an American citizen.
Although Mom and Dad parted ways. They eventually became close again.
Mary worked at the Dewey Woolen Mill, waitress at Rosie's Tavern was housekeeper for Walter and Eleanor Paine. And was one of first hot lunch ladies for the one room schools in the Pomfret area. And learned about Antiques from Hillary Underwood. Mary was a Girl Guide in England and a Girl Scout leader in Woodstock.
When Mother married Robert Sharpe our children got another Grandpa, Great Grandpa. They would go bowling, with a side trip to the dollar store. Swimming in the Howard Johnson pool. Cheering on the kids school events. Sking at Dartmouth Ski Way in Lyme. Boating on Lake Seymour in Vermont. Mother and her great grandaughters enjoyed tea parties and had a lemonade stand. And don't forget the thrift stores and the yard sales.
Mary enjoyed bowling, Slab City Sues, at the rec center. Gardening and assorted outdoor activities. Playing cards making cookies, crafts and eating lunch at the senior center.
Was a Proud Member of Red Sox Nation . And passed that on to her Grandaughter and Great~Granddaughters on both the East and West Coast.
Mary is pre~deceased by Arthur, her first husband and Robert her last husband. Son in laws Nelson Reynolds Sr and Richard Potter Sr. Grandchildren Greg Audsley and Richard Potter Jr and three brothers and four sisters.
Mary is survived by her children; Linda in New Hampshire,Arthur (Buzzy) in Vermont,Suzanne in Washington, Richard in Idaho and Cassandra in Florida. And baby brother Victor Oakley in Australia❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She is also survived by ten Grandchildren, twenty Great Grandchildren and thirty Great Great Grandchildren.
