Mary Clough Johnstone, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday afternoon September 11th at the Mertens House in Woodstock, Vermont.

Mary was born on February 28, 1920 in Woodstock, New York the daughter of Francis G. and Elizabeth (Lasher) Clough.

Mary was a graduate of Middlebury College with a B.A. in American Literature. She lived in Woodstock, NY, Middlebury, VT, Montreal, Canada, and for many years in Woodstock, VT. She was a teacher at the Woodstock (VT) Elementary School and later she owned and operated Wood Shed Antiques with her husband Emerson.

Mary was an active and involved member of the community throughout her entire life.

She is survived by her daughter Kathy Senecal and her husband Paul of Cromwell, CT, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Emerson G. Johnstone and her son Jay Roger Johnstone.

A graveside service will be held on Monday September 16th at 11:30 am in the Prosper Cemetery on Prosper Road in Woodstock, VT. A reception and time of sharing will follow the service at the Prosper Community House.
