Margaret "Maggie" B. Gerety, 86, died Wednesday morning November 16th at her home in West Hartford, VT.
Maggie was born September 5, 1925 in Fairfield, Connecticut daughter of Mary Edna McQueer Beattie and Basil George Beattie.
She attended schools in Fairfield, graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1943. She worked at Fairfield Trust Company until her marriage to Robert P. Gerety in 1949, and then as a service representative at the Southern New England Telephone Company until the birth of their son Robert, Jr. in 1951.
In 1949 when Maggie married Robert he was a student at Yale University of Medicine. Following Mr. Gerety's graduation in 1952 they moved to San Diego, CA where Dr. Gerety interned at San Diego Naval Hospital. They later moved to Long Beach for one year and then to Groton, CT. In 1955 Dr. Gerety was discharged they then moved to Fairfield, CT where Dr. Gerety started a family practice that he ran for 15 years until spending the remainder of his career as an emergency room doctor in Bridgeport (CT) Hospital.
Following Retirement in 1989 the Gerety's moved to Reading, VT, wintering on Sanibel Island, FL. Maggie made many lasting friendships along the way. In 2006 they moved to West Hartford, VT.
In addition to her parents Maggie is pre deceased by her siblings; brothers Lee, George and Howard, and her sister Marion Russell. She is survived by her husband Dr. Robert Gerety of West Hartford, VT, her son Robert P. Gerety, Jr. and his wife Janet of Wilder, VT, and their three children -Katherine Graves, Lyle Gerety, and Mathew Gerety, as well as many nieces nephews and cousins.
Maggie was a former member of The First Church of Christ Congregational in Fairfield, CT where she was a choir member. She volunteered at Bridgeport Hospital and was a member of Fairfield Community Chorus and a board member of the Community Concert Association.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday evening Nov. 18th from 6 to 8 pm, a memorial service will be held on Saturday morning Nov. 19th at 10:00 am both at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock, VT. Burial will be held privately in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock, VT
