Margaret M.
Allard
January 24, 1933 – May 21, 2022
Margaret "Peg" Allard passed away at 89 years old on May 21st, 2022. She was born in Colchester VT and lived most of her young life in Woodstock and Barnard VT until marrying and moving to Colchester VT. In 1989 she and her husband became snowbirds and moved to a small home near Port Charlotte FL. In the past year, Peg had been in Assisted Living and had been able to care for most of her needs independently which was so important to her but eventually succumbed to a major stroke that was inoperable. She was made comfortable and passed peacefully.
She was predeceased by her father, Wallace Mayo in 1971 and by her mother Clara Belle Mayo in 1979. She dedicated 10 years to their health and well being mostly in our family home before each passed. She epitomized the importance of extended family and the loving care of them. She was also predeceased by all of her siblings...Florence DeLaricheliere (Pat), Betty Roberts (Gerry), Bernard Mayo, Polly Washburn (Larry), Paul Mayo (Annie). She was predeceased by her husband Earle W. Allard, in 2017. Following that terrible loss we worked hard to give her many many adventures...took her camping, rented cottages, fed her lobsters and made her laugh a lot for over 11 years.
She leaves behind he son, Matthew E Allard of Edmunds WA and her daughter Angela Allard of South Hero, VT as well as her two vey special grandchildren, Jessica J DeForge of Boulder, CO and Kalvin P DeForge of South Hero, VT. They became such important little people in her life when they were young...running to hug her and give her unconditional love. This love grew in their hearts as their bodies grew older and she had a very special bond to each of them and would light up at the mention of them. She was so fortunate to be able to see Jessi in March and Kalvin in April. She was truly overjoyed when they visited. She also left behind Angela's partner Leon *Joe* Lareau who she completely adored and vice versa. Joe gave her laughter, tenderness and fun with every visit! We would like to thank him for treating her like a mom and a best friend every day. She also had a special affection for Joe's children and considered them her family. We would also like to thank her wonderful Care Companion, Angela Duggan who stepped in several days a week to care for her and keep her spirits up. You will never know how much we appreciate you.
Peg's life was dedicated to being a wife and a mother for most of her life. She gave up working in 1964 to adopt Matt and Angela. She taught us so many life lessons...."Keep your eye on the ball when playing baseball, don't cut in line just because other people do, achieve whatever you want regardless of what other people say. And sticktoitiveness...you start it, you stick with it." She was very happy in the woods hunting deer and other critters with her dear friend Doris Sterling who passed last year. She taught us to fish and hunt. We learned to collect wiild berries and apples and make simple desserts at our camp in Bridgewater. Those were such very special times for us. She believed in helping those who were less fortunate. She believed in speaking her mind when it was necessary and kept up on current events and could share her point of view with the best of them. She believed in turning to her family for support when she needed it. She was a tough lady!
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. She would be most delighted if anyone wanted to donate to Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 163 Bridgewater VT 05034-0163.
