Obituary

Quechee, Vermont

Magnus Moliteus, 84, died peacefully at his home in Quechee, Vermont, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Magnus was born on March 11, 1939, in Jossefors, Varmland Sweden, son of Eric and Karin (Alden) Nilsson. He was a loving husband, father, farfar (father's father) and morfar (mother's father) and great-morfar. He is survived by his soulmate of 40 years, Christina Ofverholm Moliteus of Quechee, VT, their son Marcus Moliteus of Dublin, CA, and his daughters Stephanie Ulrika Zurita of Henderson, NV and Elisabeth Moliteus of Three Bridges, NJ (children from a previous marriage to Margareta Moliteus Jonesson). Five grandchildren: Christopher Zurita, Kim Zurita, Katherine Dupin, NV and the twins Avery and Charles Moliteus, CA; seven great grandchildren (Ana, Alex Jr, and Aaron Zurita; Hannah and Elisabeth Zurita; Luka and Mattias Dupin) and his two sisters in Sweden, Kerstin Widing and Ulla Nilsson.

Magnus spent most of his younger years in Sweden, however, through work related travels, he experienced a broad view of the world, travelling extensively to well over 100 countries. Upon moving to the United States in 1977, his primary residence was Bridgewater, NJ. Magnus and Christina also purchased a second home in Quechee, VT in the early 80's which became their primary home in 2020. They also resided in Florida as well as Fairfield, CT prior to moving full time to Quechee .

He earned his master's degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of Uppsala, Sweden. All of his life he worked within the pharmaceutical industry. He began his career at the Swedish company Pharmacia AB in Uppsala, Sweden, later founding the subsidiary of Pharmacia France while living in Paris in the mid-seventies. Magnus then became head of their International business and President and CEO of Pharmacia, Inc (now owned by Pfizer) in Piscataway, NJ. He served as Executive Director for Sweden's governmental agency, Invest in Sweden, and thereafter he continued to work as Chairman, Advisor and Consultant for many pharmaceutical companies throughout Asia and USA. Together with his wife Christina, he founded a consulting company enhancing Swedish-American relations within the health care industry, but also focusing on related activities. He was very active in the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., in New York City, both as Chairman and Advisor to the Board. He also served as member of the Board of the Health Industry Manufacturers Association (HIMA) and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PMA).

Magnus enjoyed competitive tennis, running, as well as golf and often went on hikes around beautiful Quechee. Swimming was a must for him, and as a ritual he swam almost every afternoon in Lake Pinneo - before his 5 o'clock mandatory scotch. Not a day went by without him solving the hardest sudoku puzzle, even if it took some time.

He is lovingly remembered for his charismatic personality, his sharp mind and integrity, and his never-ending curiosity. He had a deep interest in and knowledge of the stock market, in addition to his fascination with world history, culture and economics. We will truly miss his wonderful sense of humor and his storytelling. When Magnus said: "You know…" we could expect one of his many stories from his adventurous life and travels around the world.

A celebration of his life will take place in Quechee later in the summer Please contact the family for more details. Cabot Funeral home has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook found at www.cabotfh.com
