Mae Alice Knudsen, 102, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2021 with her family, at Gill Odd Fellow Home.
She was born on June 19, 1919, in Jefferson, N.H., the daughter of Edward and Flossie (Clement) Birmingham.
She graduated from Woodstock Union High School, in 1938. She never missed the Woodstock Alumni Parade.
Mae is survived by one sister, Winifred Birmingham Kitonis, St. Cloud (Lake Elmore).
She was the devoted mother of Lorraine Dayton, Susan Ditto, and Virginia (Bill) Masters.
Mae is the treasured grandmother of Bruce, Douglas (Nancy), and Tony Dayton (Jody), Hugo Arthur Ditto, Samantha Mae Ciccone, Amber Weston (Lucas) and Lucy Masters (Colin). She is the adoring great-grandmother of Michael, Matthew, Joanna Mae and Sarah Dayton, Noah Dayton, Azalea Mae Randolph, Will Weston and the beloved aunt of many neices and nephews, and former daughter-in-law Bonnie Dayton
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur Edgar Knudsen, her brothers, Reginald (Elizabeth) and Leon (Hazel) Birmngham, sister Eva (Coltey) Bernier and her sons-in-law, Jake Dayton and Frank Ditto.
Mae was a very kind and fun person to be around. She has many friends, and loved to have people stop by her house for homemade pastries. She was a great baker, and cook. Her neices, nephews and grandchildren loved her skinny pancakes, doughnuts, pies and Thanksgiving dinners. She loved having her family and friends around. Mae's happy, sunny, home always had two parakeets, cats, many plants and flowers. She had a love of animals, whether they walked, flew or crawled. She had two "pet" snakes,Henry and Henrietta. She also had her own horse and enjoyed riding very much. She was an avid gardner. She will be remembered by many tending to her gardens. She was renowed for her talent at singing and yodeling. She was happy to share her yodeling with all who wished to listen. Her favorite songs that she loved to sing were Cowboy Jack, and Ole Strawberry Roan. She enjoyed all kinds of music, especially Country. She liked making up rhyming poems. Mae loved working at the Homestead/Merten House, well into her 80's. She never got old. She lived life to the fullest, and will be dearly missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at the Baker Hill Cemetery in Bridgewater Center, Vt. on Saturday May 21st beginning at 2:pm
