Lorraine Hanson Wallace died peacefully on the morning of March 16th, 2015. She was 95 years old. Many thanks to the staff at Mertens House for the care given to her.
Lorraine was born in Bellerose, Long Island, the daughter of Wellmar and Mary Hanson. She attended Northfield Academy (Northfield-Mt. Hermon, MA), the Grier School (Tyrone, PA), and Skidmore College. During WWII, she worked for the Air Corps Material Command, and after the war for CBS in NY City. In 1970 she moved to Wethersfield, VT. She became the caregiver for several relatives, and eventually the kind matriarch of her extended family. Lorraine was pre-deceased by her husbands, Russell Wittpenn, Everett Babcock, and John Wallace.
She leaves behind her loving daughter, Nancy Murphy, and her husband Bill, of South Royalton; her grandchildren, James, and Ethan, and his wife, Kelly; great-grandchildren Ruby and Oskar; and several nieces and nephews near and far.
She was a long-time member of St Mark's Episcopal Church in Springfield, VT. If you would like to, donations in her memory may be made to St Mark's Episcopal Church, Springfield, VT.
