Bridgewater, Vermont

Lorraine Dayton, formerly of Bridgewater Center passed away peacefully Sunday, December 31, 2023 in the presence of family at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow at age 81. She was born in Bridgewater, Vermont on June 3, 1942 to Arthur and Mae Knudsen. A resident of Bridgewater most of her life, she graduated from Woodstock Union High School in 1960 and was married to Jacob Dayton of Jonesboro, Tennessee on September 24th the same year.

Lorraine spent most of her life as a self-employed domestic helper as well as a part time server at the Bridgewater and Wasp diners. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, crochet, gardening, playing cards, and collecting antiques, coins and stamps. She also enjoyed family gatherings, music, shopping, traveling, frequenting the local diners, visiting with her cousin Connie, taking care of her three sons, and spoiling her grandchildren.

Lorraine's husband, parents, and son Billy preceded her in death. She is survived by her three sons, Bruce, Douglas, and Anthony (Tony); two sisters Susan Ditto and Virginia "Ginny" Masters; grandchildren, Joanna Dayton, Sarah Dayton, Michael Fox Jr., Matthew Dayton, and Noah Dayton; nieces Hugo Ditto and Samantha Ciccone; great niece Azalea Ciccone, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

The Graveside service will be held on June 8, 2024 in the Baker Hill Cemetery beginning at 10:30am. Memorial donations may be made to the Thompson Center, 99 Senior Lane, Woodstock, VT 05091 or the Oak Chapel, 35 Oak Chapel Road, Bridgewater Corners, VT 0035
