LILLIAN CAROLINE REISERT PHELAN, 93, passed away on August 13 at the Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community in Windsor, where she resided for three years. Their impressively caring, professional and loving staff has been a comfort to Lillian and the family.
A longtime Woodstock resident, Lillian was an artist, craftsperson, entrepreneur and antiquarian. She ran the Church Street Gallery in Woodstock village for 25 years
Her husband Joseph died in 1996 after 48 years together, and she is survived by 3 sons, Joseph, Richard and James and 3 granddaughters, Sarah Mauel, Loren White and Serena de Mouroux-Phelan. She also leaves her beloved nieces Virginia Peck and Marianne Campbell.
Beginning in 1956 the family began a northward migration from Long Island NY, with several-year sojourns in Connecticut and Keene NH, to finally settle down in Woodstock VT in 1970.
Lillian was a member of Our Lady of the Snows church, and a devotee of Mary, having organized prayer groups and undertaken a number of pilgrimages to Medjugorje in Bosnia.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday August 19th from 6 to 8 pm at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 20th at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock followed by burial in the Riverside Cemetery.
