Woodstock, Vermont
Leon E. Lewin, 82, died at his home in Woodstock, Vermont on Wednesday May 18th surrounded by his family.
Leon was born on December 9, 1933 in Quechee, Vermont the son of the late Horace and Beatrice ( Gibbs) Lewin
Leon graduated from Woodstock High School in 1952 and went to work at the Bridgewater Woolen Mill. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He married Lucie Woods in 1955.
In 1957 Leon began a 40-year career working for and eventually becoming the Service Manager of F. A. Richmond's in Woodstock and worked at Welch's True Value in Woodstock until his passing. Leon also worked for the Woodstock Police Department for a number of years.
He was the past master of the Woodstock Masonic Lodge # 31 F. & AM and organization he joined in 1960. He was also a member of the Ottuaquechee Chapter # 21 Royal Arch Masons, Windsor Council # 8 R. & S.M., the Vermont Commandrey #004 Knights Templer in Windsor, and the Mount Sinai Temple #3. Leon joined the Woodstock Fire Department in 1975 and served as a Captain. He was a member of the American Legion Ora E. Paul Post # 24 and of the Woodstock Men's bowling league.
Leon is survived by his wife Lucie Lewin of Woodstock, Vt, 3 sons; Morrie, wife Robin Lewin of Grafton, MA, Robert, wife Sarah Lewin of Blue Mountain Lake, NY, John Lewin of Hollyhill, FL, his daughter Sue (Lewin), husband Michael Bryan of Hartland, VT, 5 grandchildren, 1 brother William Lewin of Woodstock, VT, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is pre deceased by one brother Harry Gibbs.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 22nd at 2:00pm at the First Congregational Church in Woodstock. A reception will follow at the Woodstock Fire Department Emergency Services Building. Burial will be held privately in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Woodstock Fireman's Relief Fund or the Woodstock Masonic Lodge #31 F&AM
