Kathryn "Kay" Sutherland, 95, died Saturday morning September 3, 2011 at the Mertens House in Woodstock, Vermont.

Kay was born April 9, 1916 in Barre, Vermont the daughter of Karl Russell and Nellie (Babcock) Sawyer.

Following High School Kay married L.D. Sutherland, Sr on September 18, 1937. Kay spent most of her life cooking in the Woodstock area; she worked many years at the Woodstock Union High School, for Bunny Bertram at Suicide Six and later at the Woodstock Country Club. Kay was extremely active with the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce volunteering many years at the "info booth" on the green. She also volunteered for the Edwin Thompson Senior Center. Kay enjoyed cooking, working on crafts, deer hunting and spending time with her family.

Kay is survived by two sons; L. D. Sutherland, Jr. of Woodstock, VT, and Dennis Sutherland of Bailey CO, 6 grandchildren; Michelle Weglarz of Woodstock, Vt., Mitchell Sutherland of Corpus Christi, Texas, Melissa Sutherland of Bozeman, MT., Ryan Sutherland of Missoula, MT., Nathan Sutherland of Broomfield, CO. and John Paluch of Westfield, MA., many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her daughter Caroline Paluch, her granddaughter Terry Lynn Paluch, and a brother Russell Sawyer.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 14th at 2:00 pm at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock. Rev. Beverly Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in The Silver Lake cemetery at a later date.
