Obituary

June (Beland) Campbell died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center as a result of injuries from a car accident on March 6.
June was born June 8, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Maude (Slayton) Whitcomb at the house she grew up in and raised her family in. She graduated from Woodstock High School in 1939 and studied bookkeeping at Bay Path Institute in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She was a career bookkeeper her entire life, often keeping books for more than one business at a time. She worked for C.C. Frost, The Woodstock Market, Carter Insurance Agency, Bridgewater Woolen Mills, and Magee Fuels, to name a few. She also did private bookkeeping for individuals and audited books for cemetery associations, etc. She was past Treasurer of the Universalist Church, the ABC House, and the Woodstock Job Bank.
June married Victor Beland on April 1, 1945. He predeceased her in 1978. On November 26, 1982 She married Freeman Campbell, who predeceased her in 1992
June was a lifelong animal lover, whose home was always open to any animal who needed one. Unadoptable, elderly, badly injured, it didn't matter; June was there. Each one became a part of her family. June also loved the wild animals that roamed her property. Deer, birds, squirrels, and chipmunks, she loved and fed them all. She grew a huge vegetable garden that supplied family, friends, and the local food shelter with fresh vegetables in the summer and frozen in the winter.
She was a loving and giving woman who will be truly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean (Stephen) Sand, Sheila (John) Schweitzer; two stepdaughters, Sandra Simpson and Nancy (Larry) Morrison; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and several dear ones who called her their "Mom" or "Aunt June". She is predeceased by her parents, her two husbands, her brother Irving, her sister Loraine, and a grandson Curtis Schweitzer.

A service of celebration will be held on Saturday April 9, 2011 at the North Universalist Chapel Society at 7 church Street in Woodstock beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, June wanted donations to the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society P.O. Box 702, Brownsville, VT 05037 or the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of VT & NH, P.O. Box 976, White River Jct., VT 05001.
