Obituary

Woodstock, Vermont

Julia A. Haynes, 55, died on Thursday afternoon July 21st at her home in Woodstock surrounded by her family, following nine years of bravely facing cancer.

She was born on May 29, 1961 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of James and Rita (Costello) Kintz.

A graduate of Powers Catholic High School in Flint, MI, and Northern Michigan University (BA), Julia discovered a passion for helping young people learn to communicate and connect with the world. This interest led her to Michigan State University, where she earned a Masters in Speech & Language Pathology, and Southern New Hampshire University, where she attained a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Curriculum & Leadership. Following college, she made her lifelong home in Vermont, for its beauty and its people.

She worked as a Speech Pathologist for the Windsor Supervisory District, a Consultant for the State of Vermont, a Curriculum Director for Hartford School District, and as an Assistant Superintendent for Hartford School District. A master planner and organizer, Julia connected with others, personally and professionally, and helped others make connections to people and new ideas.

Julia was a proud mother who devoted herself to raising two kind, curious, and compassionate children. She was a loving wife; a companion and confidant to her husband Joe, whom she married in 1995. She was very close to her family in Michigan and looked forward to spending time with sisters, brothers, nephews and nieces on lakeside vacations. Her friendships meant the world to her. She treasured her many close friends, who were, in turn, devoted to her. Julia was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading, swimming, camping, and traveling with family.

Julia is survived by her husband Joe Haynes, son Morgan Haynes, daughter Emily Haynes, her five siblings; Kathleen and her husband James Mitchiner, Mary and her husband Bill Housefield, Mark Kintz, Therese Edwards, Bruce Kintz and his wife Lori, her sister-in-law Rosita Kintz, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Stephen, by nieces Stephanie Kintz and Roxanne Franklin and nephew Marcus Kintz.

Julia and her family are grateful for the outpouring of support from her many friends, family members, Visiting Nurse and Hospice and other caregivers who helped to ease a difficult time.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 31st at 2:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock, followed by a reception. Burial will be held privately at the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock.

Memorial donations may be made to: The Woodstock Food Shelf (woodstockfoodshelf.org) or The Hand to Heart Project (handtoheartproject.org).
