Pomfret, Vermont
Jonathan "Jack" Charles Maxham, 65, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 13th at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
The son of Henry and Martha (Bailey) Maxham, Jack was born on May 30, 1949 in Hanover, New Hampshire. Jack graduated from Woodstock Union High School and the New Hampshire Technical College with a degree in electrical engineering. He served in the Army Reserves and worked on the family farm for several years before beginning a 40+ year career with Granite State Electric (now National Grid), retiring in May as the lead technician in the communications department.
In the winter of 1977 he met Kristen "Krit" Wilson on the local snowmobile trails, and they married the following summer on June 24, 1978 at the North Pomfret Congregational Church. Settling in South Pomfret, they then built the Maxham log cabin, which remains the family home today.
First and foremost a family man, Jack's most favorite activities were ones he could do with his family. A great day included hiking, camping, fixing anything, traveling anywhere and watching the Red Sox. He was very proud to continue the longstanding Maxham traditions of sugaring the Pomfret woods, working with oxen and the annual trip to the Fryeburg Fair. Most recently, Jack was revisiting his family farming roots with plans to grow a hop yard and was working on designing and fabricating a new method for improved hop harvesting.
Jack is survived by his wife Krit Maxham, his children; Justen and his wife Rebecca Lawrence, Sadie and her husband Chris McCall and their daughter Harper, Lisa, Hannah, Rebecca and Daniel, and his brother Bruce and his wife Paula Maxham, his sister Jane Maxham and Steve Frost and a large extended family.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, September 19th at 1:30pm in the Burns Cemetery on LaBounty Road in Pomfret followed by a gathering at the Pomfret Town Hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock, Vermont. On line guest book available at cabotfh.com
