Jon
Randall
July 15, 1960 – April 21, 2026
Søren Kierkegaard expressed in his novel Works of Love that, "Only when it is a duty to love, only then is love eternally and happily secured against despair." For Jon David Randall, when it mattered most, the duty of love was fulfilled with joy and unwavering devotion by his family and loved ones. In accordance with that profound duty, his family is deeply saddened to announce his passing on April 21, 2026, following a brief yet severe illness at the young age of 65.
Jon was born on July 15, 1960, in Sanford, Maine, to Harold and Gladys (Rand) Randall, as the youngest of three children. He grew up in Lebanon, Maine, graduating from Noble High School in 1978.
He led an adventurous yet peaceful life, distinguished by his passions, love of knowledge, and deep rooted love for his family. To those fortunate enough to know him, Jon was a diligent and devoted individual who lived his life guided by the steadfast values of courage, respect, wisdom, humility, honesty, love, and truth. He valued hard work and was proud to share with others about his long history of employment at Pratt & Whitney as an Aircraft Machinist. His legacy is one of integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the principles he cherished.
In later years, Jon embraced a quiet and reflective life, accompanied by his feline companion, Midnight, whom he affectionately called Buddy. His days were often centered around routines that prioritized health, cleanliness, family, and his many interests. Music and literature played a significant role in Jon's life, as he spent much of his time exploring bookstores, music shops, and worthy local restaurants, as well as appreciating the landscapes and towns they called home. He was meticulous in caring for every possession and wholeheartedly embraced the beauty of the good things life had to offer—never forgetting to share a good fact, story, or laugh with those he was closest to. In his free time, when not enjoying a good song or reading a good book, Jon kept himself heavily informed of current events, enjoyed the splendors of nature, cared for his parents and family, and delighted in good food—something he would urge all others to do more of. You never caught him without a smile.
Jon was preceded by his father Harold Randall and sister Donna (Randall) Collins and is survived by his mother, Gladys Randall; his sister, Lois (Randall) Robertshaw, and her husband, Alan; and his four children, Joshua, Kellianne, Kathleen, and Krystina Randall. He also leaves behind his beloved daughter-in-law Jackie and his granddaughter, Josie Randall, along with many extended family members whom he loved dearly.
A graveside service to honor his life and memory will be held at the Ascutneyville Cemetery in Windsor, Vermont, on May 1, 2026, at noon. The family sincerely extends their gratitude to Gosnell Hospice House, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, and Mass General Brigham for their tireless efforts in caring for Jon during this difficult time and for making this process more manageable for him and his loved ones. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Maine Farmland Trust, the Honor Flight Maine or the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine in honor of Jon Randall.
Some of Jon's favorite verses include: The Lord's Prayer, Ecclesiastes 3, and Philippians 4:13.
