John Wheeler, 84, died Sunday morning July 15 th at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow, Vermont
John was born on April 1, 1934 in Springfield, MA the son of Clifford Earl and Elizabeth (Rehberger) Wheeler.
Growing up in Springfield John graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950 and served for many years as an Alter boy. John moved to Plymouth Vermont and worked for a number of contractors in the area before beginning a 37-year career working for General Electric in Ludlow and later in Rutland, retiring in 1991. Following retirement John worked at the Coolidge Homestead in Plymouth.
John was active in his community. He served as the town moderator, town auditor, justice of the Peace and on the fire department in the town of Plymouth. John also served on the board of directors and was the moderator for the Heritage Credit Union. He was also a 37-year member of the Ludlow National Guard.
John enjoyed hunting and gardening but found great pleasure in playing Santa Claus in Ludlow, Plymouth and Bridgewater.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice Wheeler, sisters Shirley Billings, and Carol Blaise, brothers David and John Norton, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to his parents he is pre deceased by 2 brothers; Frank and James, and a sister Joanne Touney.
Visiting hours will be held at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock, VT on Wednesday July 18 th from 5 to 7 pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday July 19 th at 11:00 am in the Church of Annunciation in Ludlow, Vermont followed by burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Proctorsville and a reception back at the church.
