North Pomfret, Vermont

Jean Chase, 75, died Sunday evening October 1st at her home in North Pomfret surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 27, 1941 in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England, the daughter of Albert Edward and Phyllis Mary (Horner) Lowrey. Jean along with
her family spent almost every night of her first 3 years in an air raid shelter.

Jean completed her education (equivalent of High School in America) in Bedford, England in 1958 and went to work for the RAF Base in Cardington.
In 1960 she met her future husband, Howard and they married in 1961, They spent the next 56 years together. The Chases moved to the United States in 1962 and Jean began to live the life of a military wife for the next 20 years during which time she gave birth to their 4 children in 4 different countries. Upon retiring from the U S Navy in 1979 they eventually settled and made their home in North Pomfret, Vermont. The last 12 years have been split between Vermont and Venice, Florida.

Jean worked for the Sugar Bush farm for 18 years but her passion was spending as much time as possible with her family and the home she made for them all. She had an incredible green thumb that she used for both flower and vegetable gardens. Jean also enjoyed knitting, baking, putting up jam, but most of all time with her children and grandchildren. She was small in stature, but carried a huge personality combined with her distinctive English humor. She will be missed by many.

Jean is survived by her husband Howard J. Chase of North Pomfret, her one surviving sister Beryl Wong (Malcolm), her three sons; David (Amanda) of Hopkinton, NH, Brian (Katie) of Sharon, VT, Robert (Melissa) of Tunbridge, VT, her daughter Lisa (Michael) Rinaldi of Bowdoin, ME, her eight grandchildren; Callie and Sam Chase, Mikey (Margaret), Danny, and Joey Rinaldi, Abigail Chase, and Christopher and Emily Chase as well as many extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 4th at 2:00pm at the North Pomfret Congregational Church. A reception will follow at the Pomfret Town Hall from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
