Jan Marshall , 88, passed away at Mt. Ascutney Hospital on September 19th, 2021

Jan was born on November 5, 1932 in Pe abody, MA to Marjory and Ralph Raymond.

Jan graduated Peabody High School, class of 1950, and Bates College Class of 1954.

Jan had a life long love of animals, especially dogs. At age 13, she had trained her collie "Royal" and showed him in breed & obedience classes. Her experience working with horses brought her to the Woodstock Inn Stables after college, where she met Don Marshall and married him in 1955. Two years later, they started their kennel "Donnaj" and bred & trained G erman S hepherds for the next 10 years. In 1968, Jan got her first Rottweiler puppy. "Kato" became the first Rottweiler to win Best in Show in the U.S. and was the first of several champion Rotties she shared her life with over the next 30 years. During the 70's Don and Jan trained, showed, and hunted with L ab ra dor and Chesapeake B a y R etrievers. Jan was busy with 3 retrievers & 4 Rotties, all house dogs!

As Jan got older she downsized and showed Cardigan Welsh Corgies, adding Agility training to her resume. Her extensive expertise in showing and training led to professional work as an obedience instructor and as a respected AKC dog show judge. Her assignments took her all over the US and even to Columbia and Trinidad.

Toward the end of her life a rescue poodle named "Susette" was her constant companion. Susie wasn't very obedient, but Jan didn't mind "She makes me laugh!"

Jan was a charter member of the Woodstock Dog Club holding several offices and committee chairs including AKC Delegate. She was also a member of the American Rottweiler Club, and several other regional and national dog breed and training organizations.

Jan is survived by h er d aughter Debbie Marshall-Baker and her husband Bernie Baker, a son Dave Marshall and his wife Monica, 4 grandchildren ; Chris Baker, Brynn, Freddie and Hannah M arshall. She is pre deceased by her h usband: Donald Marshall and a son: Dale Marshall
