James H. Christy, 87 died at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH Monday Oct. 8, 2012 after a long illness.
Jim was born Feb. 19, 1925 in Hollidaysburg, PA son of Arthur & Jean (McMillian) Christy.
He graduated from Hollidaysburg, PA high school in 1942. After high school Jim joined the US Marine Corp. in the 4th Marine division. Being injured in the war he returned home to then marry Virginia Walton in 1947.
Jim first worked for the state of Pennsylvania Highway Department as a draftsman and then for J. Bishop & Co as a platinum worker. In 1969 the Christies moved to South Woodstock, Vermont where he started his own landscaping business. He was a founding board member of the Mertens House and Mellishwood both of Woodstock. He was chairman of the board for the Unitarian Universalist church in Woodstock and the Green Mountain Perkins Academy in South Woodstock. Jim loved his gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Virginia of So. Woodstock, 2 daughters, Dulany Bennet, South Woodstock and Katherine Christy, Portland, Oregon and 1 grandson Thomas Bennett, Brooklyn, NY. Jim was pre-deceased by 1 son Joseph and 2 brothers Robert and Phillip.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday Oct. 13th at 1:00 pm at the Unitarian-Universalist Chapel in Woodstock, Vermont
