James Richard Bertholdt, 69, passed away peacefully March 11, 2018, at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph Vermont.
James was born March 4, 1949 at Kent County Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island, son of Raymond and Irene (Corbin) Bertholdt.
He grew up in Coventry with his brother and six sisters. James started working at a young age with his father learning stone masonry and carpentry. He and his father often worked on Block Island where the family would build a home and settle in the early 70's. James enlisted in the army in 1966 and served in Vietnam.
James moved north to Dummer NH in 1977 with his wife, raising three children. He worked as a stonemason and carpenter for years throughout the North Country. James enjoyed being outside, camping, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He liked to have a good time with family and friends.
James joined his daughter in the Woodstock area in 2008. James made many friends in the area. He was well liked and always willing to lend a hand where needed. In 2015 James had a stroke, limiting his mobility but not his great personality. He enjoyed talking with people and making them smile. He will be greatly missed.
James was predeceased by his father, Raymond R. Bertholdt; mother Irene (Corbin) Bertholdt and brother Raymond E. Bertholdt.
He is survived by sisters Judith Larochelle, Carol Kettle, Dianna Bertholdt, Kathy Cook, Laurie Gempp and Tammy Bertholdt Brown. Also sons Chad Bertholdt and Cory Bertholdt, daughter Kelly Bertholdt. Grandchildren Courtney Bertholdt, Celina Martinez, Brandon Bertholdt, Morgan Bertholdt, Dylan Bertholdt and Laila Bertholdt. and a great grandson Daniel Buckley.
A memorial gathering is being planned for a later date.
