Woodstock, VT:
James Morrison Bailey, 92, died on September 11, 2019. He was born December 4, 1926 in Cornwall, CT, son of Sherman and Mae (Morrison) Bailey. Jims parents relocated their family to Woodstock in the late1930's, eventually purchasing and farming Star Farm where Jim grew up with 2 brothers and 2 sisters and farm animal friends.
Jim married Marilyn Harvey of Woodstock, VT on August 21, 1948, notably celebrating 71 years of love and devotion in August of this year. They welcomed a daughter, Lynn Parker in 1949 (currently of Sharon, VT) and a second daughter, Dawn Edwards in 1955 (who with her husband recently returned home to Woodstock ).
Jim enlisted in the service after high school and served in the Military Police. Upon his honorable discharge, he became the proprietor of two service stations.
Jim was very passionate about his work and career under the tutelage of his lifelong friend and boss, Kurt Gerrish of Gerrish Motors. He spent 26 years with Kurt, retiring in 1986 as General Manager of Honda Woodstock. Jim and Kurt travelled together to conventions and won many awards for sales (1979 Sales Mgr Award (Mercedes)) as well as 23 years in the Legion of Leaders.
Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father and an incredibly hard worker…..a faithful servant to both his family and his work. He was known for keeping an organized and tidy home, preferring to do all the maintenance and fixing himself. He had a great talent and love for woodworking, making numerous pieces for his home, friends, and family.
He was known for his love and mastery of the game of golf including numerous holes in one and championship titles in both Woodstock and Florida. He was a 45 yr member at the Woodstock Country Club…..his home away from home after retirement.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Martha Maxham and brothers Doug Bailey and Ray Bailey. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Marilyn, his two children, Lynn and Dawn, niece Sheila Lewis (Delray Beach, FL), his sister Barbara Squires (Sebring, FL) and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Per Jims wishes, there will not be a service, however, before Jim passed he told the family to be sure to let all of his family and friends know that he loved them all.
