West Windsor, Vermont
Ian Richmond Barribal, 80, passed away at his home with his daughter by his side on August 15th, 2015.
Ian was born in 1935 in Malvern, England. He and his wife Ann married in England and immigrated to Toronto, Canada where he pursued a career in the art world as a graphic designer. Together they had two children, Catherine and Ian. The family then moved to the United States in 1963 and resided in Wilton CT, where Ian commuted to New York City five days a week. He worked long hours pursuing his dream of becoming an Art Director in New York, which was an easy goal to achieve with the tremendous talent he possessed. After a long and successful career, Ian and Ann retired to the lovely state of Vermont and bought an old farmhouse that they lovingly restored. Ian continued with his artistic endeavors, becoming well known in the business for his unique and beautiful paper sculptures. He created one masterpiece after another, in addition to other interests in woodworking, carving, turning and decorative illustrations. His daughter Catherine pursued a ballet career and eventually started her own ballet company. Ian and Catherine shared their dreams together by designing, building, and painting beautiful scenery and sets for Catherine's productions. It is safe to say that his twenty years in Vermont were some of his busiest, happiest and most creative times of his life.
Ian is predeceased by his beloved son Ian Stuart, who passed in 1989 and his loving wife Ann, who passed in 2013. Ian is survived by his daughter Catherine and her husband Arthur, his sister Heather who resides in Capetown, South Africa, and a number of nieces and nephews, two of whom reside in the US, and the rest reside in England, Australia and Africa.
