Helen M
Earle
November 1, 1933 – April 9, 2025
Helen M Earle, (Laferriere), age 91, of Hale Hollow Road, Plymouth VT, died peacefully April 9th at the Merten's House, Woodstock VT.
Born on November 1, 1933 Helen was daughter to Noe and Ora Laferriere of Lowell MA. In 1951, as a wedding gift, Helen age 18, and her beloved husband Robert N Earle, were given an old farmhouse and barn on Hale Hollow Road, Plymouth VT of which they restored into a warm and welcoming home. Together, they raised their four children in the heart of the Earle community rooted in family tradition. Helen resided in their home until April 2024.
Helen, daughter of a pulp logger, began helping her mother at a young age-cooking and cleaning up after meals for the large groups of loggers her father managed. Throughout her childhood, her family moved frequently to various logging camps, MA to VT. Helen excelled in school, despite the constant relocation. She spoke French at home, English in school bridging the two with ease. For a short time, she attended Bridgewater Corners Grade School at the same time her future husband attended.
Helen never shied away from hard work. While raising four children, she also maintained a full-time job at Singer Sewing, supervisor at the Woodstock Book Bindery for nearly 35 years, and later a supervisor at Woodstock National Bank. Helen and Robert planted large gardens to harvest and canned hundreds of jars of produce each year. Helen maintained an immaculately clean home inside and out. Throughout her young life and into her 80s she wallpapered, painted, mowed & trimmed, sewed, crocheted and most remember she was an amazing cook.
Her children and niece, Linda Atwood, fondly recall their childhood memories, the most cherished being their time living in Earle Valley they lovingly referred to the mile-long stretch of Hale Hollow Road that connected the many family households of Robert's parents and siblings. The valley became a close-knit haven where cousins gathered riding bikes, sliding, playing baseball, and swimming- whatever the day brought. They were always looked after by the many relatives and the party phone line they shared. The adults enjoyed square dancing at Tink Reed's, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles; they busted with life.
Helen's grandkids recall the fun times at Robert and Helen's camp The Kitchen Place of which many weekends were spent snowmobiling, sliding, hauling wood, hiking, and picnics. Helen had a way to make the memories last with incredible meals that were hauled up on their 3 and 4 wheelers. She sang and laughed and when the meal was ready would holler out for all to come in. The small camp busted with adults, kids, laughter and food.
Helen will be remembered for her quick wit, her kindness, quiet strength and wisdom she carried throughout her life. She was generous toward others and had a no-nonsense nature. She was nobody's fool and was able to do what seemed like, anything, even despite her body's limitations from aging. Helen's door was always open to visitors. She never failed to offer a warm meal, kind words and sound advice.
Predeceased by husband Robert Earle; her siblings Hector, Willey, Ray, twin sisters Agnes & Lillian, Lucien, Raymond Laferriere; Loretta, Jakey, and Irene Goudreau; and grandson Michael Beebee.
Survived by children Ted Earle, Bridgewater VT, Cindy Earle Wethersfield VT, Becky Sebeth Plymouth VT, Donna Fuller Tamaqua PA.
