Obituary

Brownsville, Vermont

Guy Roberts passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 at his home in Brownsville, VT. Guy was born in 1939. He was proud of his Vermont roots and the fact that he attended the Depot School - a one room schoolhouse in Shaftesbury, Vermont for 8 years.

Guy met his wife Judy, of 63 years at the age of 14 while both were attending Arlington High School in Arlington, VT. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and received his M.B.A from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He lived in Wilbraham, Massachusetts for 32 years where he and Judy raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Sarah and served on the Board of Trustees at the MacDuffie School.

Guy joined the Direct Placement Division of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1963 and became Head of Direct Placements.

From 1985 until 1995 Guy was Managing Director and Head of Mezzanine Investments at CIGNA Investments, Inc. He managed the development and investment of a series of three successful mezzanine funds and was responsible for CIGNA's private equity investment program.

In 1995, Guy moved full time to Quechee Vermont, where he founded Green Mountain Partners and acted as Managing Partner. He raised and managed three successful funds. He was known in the industry as the father of the one-stop financing arrangement which provides a simplistic structure that eliminates any misalignment of interests between bank debt lenders on one hand and equity sponsors on the other.

Moving back to Vermont allowed him to be a part of his four grandsons daily lives and his greatest joys came from supporting them at their many ski races and games. He continued to be a mentor and sounding board to all four boys.

Some of Guy's favorite pastimes were golfing, gardening and travel, all of which he enjoyed most while alongside Judy. He was introduced to golf while caddying at the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, VT during high school. He and Judy worked together to create many beautiful gardens wherever they resided and his favorite trips were to the Engadine Valley, Switzerland with his family.

He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, quick intellect, love of the NY Giants, his generosity and love for his daughters and grandsons, and for his devotion to Judy.

Guy and Judy lived in West Hartford for twenty years and in Brownsville for the last three years where he enjoyed his walks overlooking Mount Ascutney with his dog, Bella.

Guy Roberts is survived by his wife Judith Roberts of Brownsville, VT, his two daughters Jennifer McKenna of East Burke, VT and Sarah Roberts of West Windsor, VT and four grandsons Matt McKenna (East Burke, VT), Chris McKenna (Quechee, VT), Samuel Matel (Boston, MA), and Maxwell Matel (New York, NY).

There will be a celebration of Guy's life held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lucy MacKenzie Humane Society, P.O. Box 702, Brownsville, Vermont 05037
