George M. Zimberg, 97, died early Friday morning February 4, 2022 in Barnard, Vermont.
George was born on December 4, 1924 in Springfield, MA, the son of Samuel and Anna (Feinberg) Zimberg.
A graduate of Classical High School in 1942, George attended Amherst College. His education was interrupted by service in the US Air Force during WW II in the European Theatre. After returning home , George graduated from Amherst and began working at his family's company, Stride Rite Shoes, as a sales representative.
Living in Cambridge, MA George began a business in Architectural Photography that he enjoyed working at for many years. He later became a b roker in Commercial Real Estate.
In 1971 , George and his wife, Jane, built and began to enjoy a home in Barnard, eventually retiring to that home in 1996.
George enjoyed skiing, sailing and was an avid reader. He included doing Valley News crossword puzzles in his daily routine. He also appreciated maps and wildlife , and had taken various watercolor painting classes. He often referred to his Vermont home as his chalet in Switzerland, offering him and Jane so many enjoyable activities. He was a member of the International Food and Wine Society and supported many organizations such as the Boston Symphony, Opera North, Pentangle and the Norman Williams Library.
He is survived by his two children; Abby Zimberg of San Francisco, CA and Eric Zimberg of Centerville, MA, his two grandchildren; Alex Zimberg of Dublin, CA and Isaac Zimberg of San Jose, CA, a brother in law, Donald Dolben and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Jane, and brother in law, David Dolben.
Graveside services were held on May 7, 2022 in the Methodist Cemetery in Barnard, Vermont
