Obituary

Frances Wood Gillett, a longtime resident of South Woodstock and Woodstock, Vermont, passed away on June 7, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph (Boots) Gillett, and her two sisters, Katherine Richardson and Elizabeth Wood. She leaves her three children, Deborah Roecker (Steven) of Rexford, New York; Ralph Gillett (Joy Ehrhardt) of Arundel, Maine; and Hamilton Gillett of Windsor, Vermont. She also leaves her two beloved grandchildren, Geoff Roecker (Esther) of Glens Falls, New York; and Gretchen Roecker (Jorge Moreno) of Lander, Wyoming. Littlest but not least, she leaves her very special great-grandson, Silas Edmund Roecker.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, to Hamilton and Katherine Wood, Fran was raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She attended the Dana Hall School and graduated from Vassar College.

Fran and Boots moved to South Woodstock in 1958 with their young family, where she lived for 50 years before relocating to Woodstock. While raising and caring for her children, Fran taught English briefly at the Woodstock Union High School, served as administrator to the headmaster at the Woodstock Country School, and for many years until retirement she was the office manager for J. David Laughlin, DDS. In her retirement she was an active member and volunteer at the Thompson Senior Center, serving for a time on their advisory board.

Fran was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock where she served in many capacities. Her faith and her community of cherished church friends were a continual source of support for 60 years.

Most of all, she is remembered as a supportive wife, a loving mother, and a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Woodstock on Saturday, June13 at 11:00 a.m. Socially distant practices, as required by the state, will be observed. Services will be live-streaming at fccw.net. If attending in person please RSVP to (801)457-9818 or Fccwinfo@gmail.com There will be no reception following. A private burial service will take place at the Methodist Cemetery in South Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers Fran has requested that donations may be made to the Deacon's Fund of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock (36 Elm Street, Woodstock, VT 05091) or to the Thompson Senior Center (99 Senior Lane, Woodstock, VT 05091).
