Frances Demers Carpenter, 95, passed away Wednesday January 26, 2011 at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.
She was born February 15, 1915 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of John B. and Grace (Baxter) Demers.
She received her education in Canada, Pomfret, and Woodstock, VT before graduating from Kimball Union Academy in 1933. She married Brock Carpenter on July 30, 1933. In addition to raising her family, Frances and her husband developed, owned and operated the Costello Block Business property from 1954 to 1972. After retiring, the Carpenters spent 18 winters in Bradenton, Florida but were always happy to return to Woodstock.
Mrs. Carpenter's hobbies included growing flowers, reading, enjoying summers at the family camp at Echo Lake in Tyson, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her two sons, Howard D. Carpenter of Milford, CT, and John B. Carpenter of White Plains MD, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a brother, John B. Demers of Colorado Springs, CO, and a sister Irene Ludwin of Hingham, MA. She is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Brock Carpenter, and a sister Dorothy G. Mucklow.
A graveside service at Riverside Cemetery is being planned for late April. In lieu of flowers friends may make donations in her name to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of VT and NH, PO Box 976, White River Junction, VT 05001.
