Floyd S. Holt Jr. passed away peacefully at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington ,Vt on the evening of September 7, 2015 at the age of 90. Floyd was born in Randolph, Vt on 7-12-1925, the first child of Floyd S. Holt and Ruth Houghton Holt of Woodstock. Floyd grew up in Woodstock attending local schools before joining the Army in 1943. Sent to the European Theatre he arrived in France shortly after D-Day. A soldier of the 79th Infantry he served in Northern France, Germany and central Europe, receiving multiple commendations including the Bronze Star. This time abroad had a lasting effect on Floyds life, his fondness for Bavarian music and food was well known to all that were close to him.

In 1947 he married Catherine Mary Soule in Woodstock, Vt. They went on to have four children, Cynthia, Marsha, Marilyn and Steven. Floyd had a career as an extremely well respected heavy equipment operator, having his own business for many years. Floyd very much enjoyed all aspects of motorcycling and enjoyed riding well into his seventies. He often attended Air shows with friends, enjoyed hunting in his earlier years, and had a passion for anything related to World War 2 history.
Floyd is survived by his children, his sister Joyce H. Lovell, nieces and nephews, a number of grandchildren, and one great-gransdon. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Nelson A. Holt, and his wife of nearly 64 years, Catherine.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock on October 3rd from 1 to 3 pm. Burial with military honors will follow at 3:30pm in the Riverside Cemetery.
